After all the good and extremely unhealty food on the first day of CNY, we decided to burn some of the spare tire by walking around Bukit Gasing today.
For those who are not familiar with PJ area, Bukit Gasing is one of the few areas designated “green lung” of Klang Valley.
- From KL, take the Federal Highway and drive towards PJ. Turn left at the exit after Kota Darul Ehsan arch (ie. the KWSP Jalan Gasing / University Hospital exit). You will see the famous Ipoh Chicken Rice stall on your right after the turn (where you could go to refuel after the walk
).
- Drive straight until you see Lotus Restaurant on the right side of the road. Slow down and you will see a Chinese temple on your left. Turn left after the temple into Jalan 5/2.
- Drive for about 700 m and you spot the sign board on your right for “Hutan Pendidikan Bukit Gasing”. Park somewhere around this area. During weekends, there’s usually a lot of cars around.
- Start your walk by following the trail. Path is shaded with trees and it could get very dark close to 7pm. Allow yourself 2 hours for the walk and go as early as possible.
The trail we chose is about 4km long and it took us 1hr 40min to complete with a slow stroll and 3 short breaks. During the busy weekend, it may take you longer as the trail is crowded with people who may be slower than you are.
It can get a bit muddy after the rain, so, don’t take your brand new shoes there. Try not to wear slippers as the steep descent will be a bit tricky to tackle. Some insect repellent will be useful too. However, you won’t get attacked by the nyamuk unless you stop. And if you don’t feel like walking so far, you can always choose a shorter trail.
Try it out if you have never done so and be prepared to sweat it out … oh! bring yourself some drinking water and if nature calls … you just have to dig a hole and watch for the giant ants!
