Finally … the iPhone 3G S is jailbroken and unlocked!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

After about 1 week of treating our iPhone 3G S as an expensive iPod, we finally got the phones jail broken and unlocked!  Good bye AT&T SIM cards ….woo hooo!!!

Thanks to all the people who make this possible … shame to Apple though.  With such tough security measures they build into the new iPhone, it’s still broken by some teenager.

Maxis will be launching the 3 GS in Malaysia soon … I wonder how much they gonna charge and will the current iPhone 3G 8Gb and 16Gb cost any less????

Pre & Post Election Comedy

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

It is just over 2 weeks since the election and while things remain unrest in some states and in many of the so called community leaders’ heads, let’s enjoy some “political” songs posted in YouTube :

Election Day’s Coming

Slippery, Slimy Day

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

We decided to burn up the extra “protein” we consumed in Coliseum Cafe last nite by taking a stroll up Bukit Gasing this morning. As it has been pouring in KL almost every day, the path was a bit more challenging due to the mud and slippery ground. In addition, we had a surprise encounter with a 7 feet Sumatran Spitting Cobra (naja sumatrana), one of the biggest we have seen todate. While we were fiddling with the camera phone, the snake made an escape and we only managed to snap the tail portion (see below).

Naja Sumatrana in Bukit Gasing

To make things more interesting, Eve’s shoes gave way to a BIG SMILE :-)

We borrowed from nature a crawler and used it to tie the sole and made it back to the car. The best shoes for this trail is a cheap one. We have seen a few Adidas, Nike, etc sole being left behind on the trail … at least now we know how they felt :-(

Poor shoes … could not take the beating any more

Hissing steak ..ssshhhhh…

After giving Coliseum Cafe in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman a miss for so long, we decided to have dinner with our friends and colleague there tonight. The place still has not changed, gloomy but at least the damp stench that usually lingers in the air was missing.

For those who are not familiar with Coliseum Cafe, it was the place to be for Western food in KL once upon a time.  Please do not expect warm welcome or great service here.  The waiters on average are above 50 years old and have probably been working there for their whole life.  Tonight, our orders were taken by Captain Moorty.

The cod and spinach were off the menu as they were still out catching the fish and planting the spinach according to our Captain.  We decided to order mushroom soup for starter, 4 in 1 chicken and sizzling rib eye steak with mushroom sauce for main course.  We also ordered a glass of pineapple juice which turned out to be a cordial and cost RM4.30++ a glass!!

Mushroom soup - it was not piping hot and taste like powdered soup that you get from Pizza Hut.  The bread was a slice of traditional hailam bread with butter.

4 in 1 chicken -  chicken, turkey ham, chicken sausage and ???? coated in batter and fried.  The crust was crispy but a little salty.  Overall, not too bad.

Sizzling Rib eye steak -  the hot plate was probably not hot enough.  We could hear it hissing when the tomato was placed on it but then quiet when the sauce was poured.  The steak was tough and the sauce was not as good as it used to be.

Coliseum - starter

Mushroom soup - RM5.30++ & Bread - RM0.50++

Coliseum - 4 in 1 chicken

4 in 1 chicken served with fries and mixed vege - RM20.90++

Coliseum - Rib eye steak

Hissing Rib Eye Steak with fries and vege - RM37.90++

Overall, the food standard at Coliseum has dropped.  It is a sad thing as they used to have some of the best sauce around.  We didn’t go for dessert which is also one of their specialty as we were just stuffed after all the meat.

I spot a “PIG” in LRT

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Remember the ad of a guy who refused to give up his seat in the LRT couple of years ago? He pretended he was sleeping and all?

Well, few days ago another breed was spotted on the busy morning LRT. Despite the crowd standing around him, this young and more than able guy was more concerned about his beg falling over. Sigh! With all the campaigns on “Malaysian cares”, you still have such inconsiderate “pig” around.

i’ve been wanting to watch Enchanted for a really really long time… and i had my wish come true last saturday hehehe…. i have this thing for all Disney movies and cartoons… somehow i just love all their songs, and story line too… every single one leaves you with a feel good feeling and the songs will keep singing in your head for a while :)

i have to concur with Nastasshea@Nesh on the service quality of Manhattan Fish Shop too… there were just too many of them hanging around the counter chatting rather than serving customers, the lady on our right accidentally poured water onto herself and it took quite a while for them to flag one person down to get them tissues, and when they did, they got the tissue and delivered to our table instead :S

anyway here are some pics of our lunch today..

DIY Crystal Charger

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Everywhere we turn today, there will be someone wearing some form of crystal. Some for looks and some believe in its power or energy. We were advised recently that crystals can be recharged by a bigger crystal or by a group of it. Crystal is said to emit positive energy to its wearer and also able to absorb negative energy. Over time, like a battery, it may become flat or contain negative energy.

The most common crystals used for this recharge purpose are amethyst and quartz in the form of crystal geode (aka crystal cave), cluster or broken pieces. Cluster and broken pieces are of course cheaper and hence preferred in DIY projects. The sample below weigh 2.7kg with 18cm diameter and it cost RM120 from Petaling Street. (The same size amethyst cost about RM400 in a shopping mall crystal shop)

Amethyst Cluster

You may use any kind of crystals that you like for this purpose. Each crystal has its own energy and purpose.

Agate “The Stone of Balance”
Agate foster love, abundance, wealth, good luck, longevity, acceptance, courage, protection, balance, harmony, generosity, strength, security and appreciation of nature. Agate comes in a varieties of colours, shapes and sizes. The polished agate pieces below (2 to 5cm diameter) cost RM80/kg and the mini geode (8cm diameter) cost RM20 from Petaling Street.

Amethyst “The Stone of the Spirit”
Amethyst is a stone of the mind. It helps to bring calmness and clarity where there is anxiety and confusion. Wear amethyst if you want to get in touch with your intuition, your feelings, or your values. Amethyst helps one learn of all things spiritual, mystic and psychic.

Aquamarine “Stone of Courage and Serenity”
Aquamarine is a stone of courage. It accelerates the intellectual reasoning process and makes one unconquerable through learning - not only of knowledge passed through teachers of the past and present, but of oneself.

Iron Pyrite “Symbolizes Wealth and Luck”
The resemblance of pyrite to gold has made it a traditional symbol for money and good luck. Its sunny golden color associates it with the sun, and with fortification and strengthening of the mind. The name comes from the Greek word meaning “a stone which strikes fire”. (RM10 to RM15 per piece - 5 to 8 cm)

Iron Pyrite

Iron Pyrite makes a wonderful energy shield, blocking out negativity from various sources. Some of its properties include:

  • Overcomes inertia and feelings of inadequacy
  • Energizes the area where you place it (such as on a desk where you work)
  • Helps you to see behind a facade

Healing with Iron Pyrite. Use this stone to overcome lethargy and fatigue. It increases the oxygen supply to the blood and strengthens the circulatory system. It is beneficial for the lungs, alleviating bronchitis and asthma.

Jasper “The Supreme Nurturer”
Jaspers have excellent protective energies, It gives one of the courage to speak out and have personal independence. Its a stone of earth, and therefore a very “grounding” stone. It stabilizes the aura, and provide cleaning of dysfunctional energies. Excellent for those in hospitals and recuperating from surgery. (Polished Jasper- RM80/kg)

Jasper

Clear Quartz “The Energizer and Amplifier”
The most powerful, versatile multi-purpose healing stone! Particularly regarding self esteem, and healing the wounds. It amplifies the energy of all other stones and increases your emotional energy.

Rose Quartz “The Stone of Universal Love”
This is a stone of gentle warmth and love, as it heals emotional wounds and pain with its gentle calming salve. Open the heart to the beauty within and all arounf us, and will begin its healing by reducing resentments. Aids healing of depreseeion, blood circulation, heart fortification, sexual problems and encourages fertility.

Tiger Eye “Stone of Self-Discipline”
Tiger’s eyes has the qualities of the Tiger. Patient, focused, determined, alert, with perfect timing and slow, deliberate actions. Excellent grounding stone. If you need to make some changes in your life, this is the stone for you! Promotes balance and strength to get through difficult phases of life; relieves doubt and bestows decision making with vision and clarity. Helps one to be practical.

Mixture of semi polished clear quartz, rose quartz, aquamarine, agate, tiger eye, citrine and jasper. Cost RM28 per kg.

Mixed semi polished crystal

One may use just the amethyst cluster as a charger. Or place all the crystals into a crystal or glass bowl. This cluster of crystals is said to be able to cleanse and energize the crystals that you wear daily. You just need to bring your hand close to the crystals to feel the energy. The downside is the cost of this DIY - RM230 excluding bowl. Next post we will speak more about the Petaling Street crystal traders who are mostly from Nepal.

Bali & its world of massages

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Thanks to Air Asia, Bali is now a cheap holiday destination (even when compared to Langkawi!). And a trip down south is not complete if you don’t try one of their famous massages. But the question is where?

Everywhere you turn in Bali, there’s a massage parlour. The offer starts from Rp35,000 (RM13) for an hour of traditional massage to a whopping Rp400,000 (RM144) or more for a fancy 3 to 5 hour package of mandi (scrub or bath) and ayurvedic or other style of massage of your choice.

We have probably tried about a dozen massages in Bali and our favourite is Passion Spa in Ubud. Ubud is an hour drive from Denpasar airport and spots a cooler weather somewhat like Ringlet in Cameron Highlands. Passion is located off the main road and surrounded by Padi field, fruit trees and shrubs. Owned by some ang moh (like most other businesses in Bali), the furnishing is both traditional and modern …. zen is the word to describe it. The main person to look for here is Iyan Yaspriyana and you just have to try his Ayurveda massage.  Passion is not the cheapest spa around but it is worth the experience Smiley
